Chinese President Xi Jinping announced a new $3 billion aid package to help developing countries in their battle against the health and economic impact of COVID. The President made the announcement on Friday at a virtual G20 Global Health Summit.

President Xi also called out wealthy states to do more to distribute vaccines to poorer states in the Global South. “Major countries need to take up the responsibility to provide more vaccines to developing countries in urgent need,” he said in what was widely seen as a veiled critique of the United States in particular (Europe has donated tens of millions of doses while the U.S. is just getting started).
