Passengers have had a week to try out Nigeria’s brand new Chinese-built standard gauge railway that links Lagos to Ibadan. The new service is operating on a limited schedule with just two trains a day but that’ll expand to 16 daily departures shortly once construction of the remaining stations is complete.
Those who have completed the 2.5-hour one-way trip seemed very pleased and downright excited that Nigeria now has a modern railway. There were a few grumblings over the high ticket prices but others argued that cheaper tickets would cause the service to be quickly overwhelmed by too many passengers.
