Timed to coincide with the release of China’s new white paper on peacekeeping, a slick new documentary opened in theaters on Friday that showcases Chinese troops taking part in the UN peacekeeping operation in South Sudan.
Judging by the trailer for the The Blue Defensive Line the film echoes the fast-paced style of the hugely popular Wolf Warrior series of action movies and those high-octane short PLA combat training clips that are now increasingly common on Chinese and international social media platforms.
Although China Daily claimed that the film portrays “a true and vivid account of efforts made by Chinese “blue helmets” to safeguard world peace and development,” it’s unlikely that the producers addressed the 2016 controversy where those same forces reportedly abandoned their posts at a refugee camp in Juba, the capital of South Sudan.
