Nigerian Government to Investigate Allegations of “Slave” Conditions at a Chinese Factory in Abia State

A representative from Nigeria’s Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission said the agency is going to call in the Ministry of Labor and other authorities to investigate allegations of widespread abuse at a Chinese-owned factory in the southeast state of Abia.

The story, now going viral on Nigerian social media, was first reported by an independent journalist. They provided videos, photos, and first-person accounts of violence by managers against workers, including whippings, sexual assault, and forcibly confining the workers to avoid COVID-19 infection.
