Pompeo Renews Attacks on China’s Engagement and Calls on African Leaders to Reassess Ties With Beijing

United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo launched a new round of attacks against China and its presence in Africa at a recent press briefing for foreign journalists in Washington, D.C.

The Secretary responded to a question from a journalist in Zimbabwe who asked how Washington plans to respond to the growing popularity of so-called “Look East” policies in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mozambique, leading these countries to increasingly orient their foreign policy agendas towards China and away from the U.S. and Europe.
