Mauritius PM Calls for Review of Chagos Islands Deal

Navin Rangoolam, the newly inaugurated Prime Minister of Mauritius, said he wants an independent review of a draft agreement with the United Kingdom about control of the Chagos Islands.

The agreement returns the sovereignty of the small Indian Ocean islands to Mauritius, but it gives the UK a 99-year lease of Diego Garcia, an islet in the group housing a prominent military base also used by the U.S. military.
