Philippines Takes Delivery of Medium-Range Indian Supersonic Missiles as Both Countries Seek to Send a Message to China

Indian-made BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles arrived in the Philippines on April 19, 2024, marking the first time these missiles have been exported abroad.

The Philippine Marines are now installing four new missile batteries that arrived from India over the past few days to alter the equation in Manila’s increasingly contentious duel with Beijing over territorial disputes in the South China Sea.

The delivery of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles is part of a $375 million deal with India signed in 2022 that gives the Philippines the capability to reach both maritime and land-based targets within a range of 450km.
