There is mounting speculation in the Indian media this week that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit that will begin on Tuesday in Kazan, Russia.

The buzz began last week when the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi said on Friday that Modi would hold “bilateral meetings with his counterparts from (the) BRICS member countries and invited leaders.” That prompted a flurry of news coverage suggesting that the two Asian leaders would finally meet.
