Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in South Africa for the BRICS summit, which starts on Tuesday 22 August, in Johannesburg. According to a draft program [PDF] circulated earlier, the summit will kick off with a session in the afternoon focusing on the BRICS Business Forum, after which the leaders will retreat for dinner.

Wednesday will be packed with sessions for the five current members, including a report-back session featuring Dilma Rousseff, the former president of Brazil and the current head of the BRICS-led New Development Bank. The day will conclude with the adoption of the Johannesburg II Declaration – the official communique from the summit.
