Chinese support for Africa and other developing regions around the world emerged as a key message point in President Xi Jinping’s Monday address to the World Health Assembly (WHA) meeting. The WHA is the World Health Organization’s governing forum, made up of health ministers. The president spoke to the annual gathering via video conference from Beijing.
In his remarks, the Chinese president outlined six key areas to help fight the global spread of COVID-19. His speech included several specific references to Africa, including calling for additional material relief, financial assistance, and access to a vaccine when it’s available.
