CGSP is committed to building a globally representative, independent, and inclusive team that reflects the complexity and diversity of the regions we cover.
We recognize that to report with depth, nuance, and credibility on China’s engagement with Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and the broader Global South, we must actively seek out voices and perspectives from across these regions. Our hiring practices are guided by our editorial values and organizational mission to promote accurate, accessible, and independent analysis.
1. Global, Inclusive, and Talent-Driven Recruitment
CGSP hires journalists, analysts, researchers, multimedia producers, and operational staff from around the world, focusing on candidates from and/or with expertise in the Global South.
We aim to:
- Recruit team members from diverse geographic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds.
- Prioritize local expertise and lived experience as essential components of credible, informed storytelling.
- Provide equal opportunities regardless of race, nationality, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or socioeconomic background.
We strongly encourage applications from professionals based in or originally from the regions we cover.
2. Editorial Independence and Conflicts of Interest
All CGSP staff, contributors, and fellows are required to uphold our Editorial Standards and Ethics Policy. As part of our commitment to editorial independence:
- Applicants must disclose any current or past affiliations with governments, corporations, political parties, or advocacy organizations that may present a conflict of interest.
- We do not hire individuals whose professional background, funding relationships, or public affiliations could compromise CGSP’s independence or nonpartisan positioning.
3. Nonpartisan, Evidence-Based Work
We seek individuals with a demonstrated commitment to:
- Nonpartisan, fact-based reporting or analysis
- Critical inquiry and intellectual honesty
- Thoughtful engagement with complexity and competing perspectives
We do not require ideological alignment. We value healthy debate, diverse viewpoints, and respectful disagreement—provided they are grounded in evidence and professional integrity.

4. Collaboration and Remote Work
CGSP operates as a distributed team. Most roles are remote, with flexible structures to accommodate time zone differences, caregiving responsibilities, and local contexts.
We value collaboration and seek individuals who are:
- Comfortable working across cultures and disciplines
- Effective communicators in virtual environments
- Self-directed and proactive contributors
Language skills (especially in Chinese or regional languages of the Global South) are often an asset, though not always a requirement.
5. Fellowships, Internships, and Early-Career Opportunities
CGSP actively supports the development of emerging talent through internships and research fellowships. These roles are designed to:
- Offer real-world experience in cross-regional reporting and analysis
- Connect early-career professionals with CGSP’s global network
- Provide mentorship from seasoned journalists and scholars
We aim to create a pipeline of future contributors and collaborators from underrepresented regions and backgrounds.
6. Transparency in Hiring
Our hiring processes are:
- Open and competitive
- Conducted with clear evaluation criteria
- Designed to minimize bias at every stage
Job postings will include salary ranges or compensation details whenever possible, and we are committed to fair pay across roles and regions.
