Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Tuesday, amid ongoing pressure from the United States to loosen the ties between the countries. The two met on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions gathering in Tianjin.

A parallel China-Vietnam Business Connection Forum saw the signing of nine new cooperation agreements centering on energy, railway, information technology, telecommunications, real estate, transportation, and boosting bilateral trade in goods. Vietnamese officials also held working meetings with Chinese rail companies on the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Hai Phong line. Construction of the line is scheduled for December.
