The Chinese government expressed “concerns” about the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. This follows Indian missile strikes on “terrorist Infrastructure” in Pakistan and the disputed region of Kashmir, which killed 26 civilians. The strike was followed by heavy artillery fire from both sides along their contested border.

“India and Pakistan are neighbours that cannot be moved apart, and they are also China’s neighbours,” a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, adding that China opposes “all forms of terrorism.” “We call on both India and Pakistan to prioritise peace and stability, remain calm and restrained, and avoid taking actions that further complicate the situation,” the spokesperson said.
