Trump Warns BRICS Countries May be Next in His Tariff Campaign

As Donald Trump prepared to launch a trade war against his North American neighbors on Friday, the U.S. president focused renewed attention on what could be his next target: the ten member states of the BRICS group.

The president is seemingly concerned about the long-held desire of some BRICS members to form their own currency, which could potentially rival the dollar’s status as the global reserve currency. If they did launch a new currency, which most experts say is highly unlikely, then Trump said he would retaliate with “100% tariffs, and [they] should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. economy.”
