Zhai Jun, China’s special envoy to the Middle East, met with Palestinian and Israeli leaders as part of a wider trip to the region. He met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Eden Bar-Tal, the Israeli foreign ministry’s director general. Zhai reportedly expressed support for the recently signed ceasefire and the exchange of captives.

Zhai also met with the United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimy and its Minister of State Khalifa Bin Shaheen Almarar. The Gaza genocide featured prominently. The readout stated: “The tragedy of the Gaza conflict should not be repeated, and the only realistic way to end the cycle of conflict between Palestine and Israel lies in the implementation of the two-state solution.”
