The Chinese embassy in Brazil condemned U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai for trying to discourage the South American country from joining the Belt and Road Initiative. The embassy said in a statement that Tai’s comments were “disrespectful” and Brazil’s sovereignty to choose its trade partners “should be respected.” (SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST)

Chinese mining giant Tsingshan Holding Group is pivoting from extracting lithium in Argentina to focusing more on Indonesia’s vast nickel reserves. Tsingshan surprised the market when it recently dumped its stake in two Argentinian lithium projects, likely due to an oversupply that’s halved prices over the past year. (CAIXIN)
