France and China published a joint statement this week on “the situation in the Middle East” that contained a number of important policy shifts in Beijing’s approach to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Since the beginning of the conflict on October 7th, China’s position has been firmly aligned with the Palestinian cause and the Arab world more broadly.
