Algeria’s Controversial Chinese-Built Mosque Is Finally Open

Algeria inaugurated the Great Mosque of Algiers on Sunday, the largest Muslim place of worship in Africa, for which construction was completed in 2019.

Built by a Chinese firm, the project is controversial because of delays and the huge cost involved and is considered by many Algerians to be a white elephant of the previous regime.
