Indonesian and Vietnamese Leaders Discuss South China Sea

Indonesian President Joko Widodo met with Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong in Hanoi on Friday as part of Widodo’s tour of the region, which also included visits to the Philippines and Brunei.

Maritime security and a possible code of conduct for the South China Sea dominated the meeting amid the sharp rise in tensions due to competing territorial claims between China and several other Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam. Indonesia has pursued a code of conduct during its presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN.)
