Egypt’s ambition to become an African vaccine manufacturing and distribution hub is now closer to becoming a reality following Saturday’s completion of a new Chinese-built cold storage facility. The new complex, located in 6 October City on the outskirts of Cairo, was built by the Chinese pharmaceutical giant Sinovac which also has a manufacturing agreement in place with Egypt’s state-run VASCERA.

The new facility will soon handle 60 million additional doses of Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine that will be provided by the Chinese government, according to a statement by Egyptian Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar. (EGYPT TODAY)
