Last week’s Europe-Africa summit largely passed unnoticed in China due largely to the fact that it coincided with the final days of the Beijing Winter Olympics and the extensive coverage related to the unfolding crisis in Ukraine.
Now, though, some analysis of the summit is beginning to emerge in the mainstream Chinese media and it’s predictably sour. Generally speaking, Chinese scholars and media (which often amplify the views of the government) tend to regard any high profile U.S. or European engagement with Africa in the context of great power rivalry with China.
