Rare Bike Collectors Take Note… South Sudan’s Got a Lot of Classics on the Streets

If you love classic Chinese bikes then you’ll want to spend some time on the streets of South Sudan, where bikes like the Phoenix are apparently quite popular.

The Phoenix, like the once immensely popular Flying Pigeon brand, dates back to the 1950s in China. They were ubiquitous at a time when there were few cars and everyone relied on bicycles to get around.

Today, these heavy-duty black bikes are no longer available in China but they circulate abroad and through any number of ways find their way to the streets of places like South Sudan.
