Judd Devermont, director of the Africa program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, noted in his daily Africa history Tweet that U.S. anxiety about Chinese infrastructure development in Africa is not a new phenomenon. In fact, as he remarked on Monday, concerns about loans-for-resources deals to build railways date back as far as the late 1960s.
