Chinese Construction Companies Aren’t Making as Much Money in Africa as They Once Did

A new chart from China’s National Bureau of Statistics indicates that Chinese construction companies are not earning as much from their African divisions as they did at the height of China-Africa economic engagement in 2015.

Although the chart is new, published in 2020, the data only tracks until 2018. Therefore, it’s quite likely that this downward trend will become much more prominent when the 2019-2020 data is factored in, given the sharp downturn in Chinese lending and economic activity in Africa due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
