Chinese official news coverage of Monday’s call between President Xi Jinping and Zambian leader Edgar Lungu highlighted the stark disparity between the two countries’ current political priorities.

Neither the Xinhua news agency nor the China Daily newspaper made any direct reference to President Lungu’s appeal for Chinese debt relief and cancellation. But both media outlets did focus on President Lungu’s apparent commitment to the One China Policy:
