Huawei Joins COVID-19 Relief Effort in East Africa With High Tech Donations

Huawei Enterprise Business Group Executive Director Bai Chengyu and Natumanya Edmund, an I.T specialist at Huawei Uganda, demonstrate a new video conferencing system donated by the Chinese company to the Ugandan Ministry of Health.

The Chinese telecom giant Huawei is stepping up its CSR efforts in East Africa to support governments in the region with various technology solutions to aid their fight to contain the outbreak of COVID-19.

These donations, and the accompanying media coverage, highlight an increasingly sophisticated approach to corporate social responsibility (CSR) communications. Chinese companies like Huawei have generally not been particularly successful with this kind of communication in Africa over the years.
