OVERVIEW:
The China Global South Project (CGSP) is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit digital media initiative dedicated to exploring every facet of China’s engagement in Africa and throughout the Global South. CGSP produces daily and weekly editorial content that is distributed across multiple channels to a wide cross-section of high-level international stakeholders focused on the detailed mapping of Chinese global expansion and engagement. This readership includes policymakers, diplomats, journalists, scholars, and students. CGSP currently has staff based in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
ROLES:
CGSP is looking for a Freelance Copy Editor who is deeply invested in African climate issues to ensure the accuracy, quality, and readability of our content. The ideal candidate will be responsible for editing articles, reports, and multimedia content that discuss the wide range of climate issues affecting the African continent, including but not limited to, climate change, sustainable development, renewable energy, conservation, and policy matters.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and edit articles for grammar, punctuation, clarity, style, and factual accuracy.
- Work closely with writers and reporters to refine their pieces.
- Conduct fact-checking to validate data, quotes, and references used in the content.
- Work on tight deadlines to ensure timely publication.
- Offer suggestions to improve content structure and readability.
- Maintain sensitivity to the diverse perspectives within the scope of African climate issues.
- Participate in editorial meetings and contribute to content strategy.
SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, Environmental Science, or related field
- At least 5 years of experience in copy editing, preferably with a focus on environmental or climate-related content.
- Excellent command of the English language
- Strong attention to detail
- Knowledge of AP Style or similar editorial guidelines
- Familiarity with climate issues affecting Africa is a significant plus.
