Some Unsolicited Advice For the Incoming U.S. Secretary of State

Secretary of State-designate Antony Blinken doesn’t have a lot of time to put together a new agenda for U.S. foreign policy in the post-Donald Trump era. Assuming, he gets through the U.S. Senate confirmation process, which in his case is probably quite likely, he’s got just a couple of months to get everything sorted. So, he’s going to have to move fast. Very fast.

And we all know that Africa isn’t going to be at the top of his priority list, especially in light of escalating tensions with Iran and Washington’s relationship with China on tenterhooks. But calls for more resources and attention to be allocated to Africa are going to grow louder, particularly from members of the Congressional Black Caucus who, it looks like will have some real sway with the new administration.
