Less than one week after the situation in Guangzhou erupted, two of Nigeria’s top politicians moved as quickly as possible to put the issue to rest. Both Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeam and Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila declared that they’re satisfied with China’s handling of the situation and declared on Twitter and in a press conference that everything’s now “sorted out.”

All of this has happened so fast that it’s taken a lot of people by surprise to see politicians one week berating the Chinese on social media over the treatment of their nationals in Guangzhou, and then the next week turn around and say “we’re good.”
