China Calls for Gaza Ceasefire in New Round of Shuttle Diplomacy With Hamas, Palestinians, and Israelis

China is making another attempt to insert itself in the Mideast peace process with a new round of shuttle diplomacy by a senior envoy who met with key stakeholders to call for a ceasefire in the ongoing war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.

Wang Kejian, a former Chinese ambassador to Lebanon, met on Sunday in Qatar with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. Wang reaffirmed Beijing’s close ties with the Palestinian militant group behind the October 7 assault on civilian populations in southern Israel.
