China and India Pushing for Coal-Friendly Language in G20

China, India and South Africa are trying to find an agreement within the G20 to allow countries to choose their own roadmap to reducing carbon emissions.

The plan, which was detailed to reporters by Indian officials, would counter G20 plans to commit to a deadline to end the use of fossil fuels. India (the current G20 president) wants to add the wording ‘multiple energy pathways’ to the final communique of the G20 summit in September.
