China convened representatives from 43 countries at the United Nations in New York to establish the Group of Friends of Global Governance, a group dedicated to the implementation of China’s Global Governance Initiative. In a joint statement, the group said: “We emphasized that the international community must address the challenges and needs faced by developing countries, especially countries in special situations in particularly African countries, least developed countries, landlocked developing countries, and small island developing States.” (CHINA DAILY)

Kazakhstan announced it will rechannel oil from its Kashagan oilfield to China, to make up for reduced flows following a Ukrainian attack on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium’s Black Sea terminal in Russia. The Caspian Pipeline makes up 80% of the country’s oil exports and 1% of global crude oil supplies. The Ukrainian attack last month damaged loading infrastructure at the terminal. The Kazakh oil pipeline operator Kaztransoil on Wednesday said it plans to ship 17,400 barrels of oil per day to China. (REUTERS)
