China’s new ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa, urged local media to avoid simplistic reporting about the Chinese community and called on reporters to resist taking the actions of a few to represent all Chinese in the country.

In a visit to the state-run Ghana News Agency (GNA) last week, Tong did acknowledge that some Chinese nationals do commit crimes but said too often journalists then take those instances to portray a negative image of the entire Chinese expatriate population.
