On Saturday, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the Vietnamese embassy in Beijing to mourn the passing of Communist Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng. He was joined by senior members of his foreign policy team, including Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Communist Party foreign policy lead Liu Jianchao.

Xi customarily bowed three times in front of a memorial for Trọng and then praised his Vietnamese counterpart as a “staunch Marxist.”
