Fact-Checking a Claim That Nigeria Threw Away More Than a Million Doses of Chinese Vaccines

TWEET TRANSLATION: Chinese vaccines that are not needed in Africa go directly to the garbage dump.

The investigative team at the Chinese news site The published a fact-checking report that debunked accounts circulating on Chinese-language Twitter that Nigeria had destroyed more than a million doses of Chinese-made COVID-19 vaccines.

Last December, Nigerian authorities did, in fact, dispose of 1.06 million doses of vaccines but they were from AstraZeneca, not a Chinese brand. The Nigerian health authorities said the vaccines had been donated too close to their expiry date and were no longer usable.
